Our Laudato Si’ Centre is delighted to announce a fantastic pilgrimage opportunity in conjunction with the Columban Missionaries in Britain.
This September, we are joining forces with the Columban Missionaries in Britain to embark on a walking pilgrimage from our Laudato Si’ Centre in Worsley to Salford Cathedral’s temporary church in celebration of the Season of Creation in this Jubilee Year.
The pilgrimage will begin with a short prayer service at the Laudato Si’ Centre before pilgrims begin the nine-mile walk to the cathedral site, with plenty of stops at parishes en route for opportunities for prayer and reflection, as well as much-needed comfort breaks.
Our pilgrimage will come to a close with Mass at Salford Cathedral’s Temporary Church at 6pm, which is open to all.
For those unable to join us on the pilgrimage itself, we’re also pleased to be offering a virtual pilgrimage for you to explore with your family, friends, or parish in your own time, as well as the opportunity to join us for our two liturgies on the day.
Ways to Get Involved
Whether you’re looking to get active or would prefer to explore our pilgrimage resources at your own pace, or simply join us for Mass, there are plenty of ways to get involved with this joyful celebration of God’s creation.
Join our Walking Pilgrimage
Our in-person prayer walk offers the full pilgrimage experience in fellowship with our brothers and sisters across the diocese and beyond!
Beginning prior to the day itself, your experience starts with two formation events in the lead up to the walk, which allow you to get to know your fellow pilgrims and focus our mind on how we are called to live out our duty to be responsible stewards of God’s creation in this Holy Year of Jubilee.
Join us then on Thursday 25 September for our pilgrimage walk, beginning with a prayer liturgy at the Laudato Si’ Centre, before setting off late morning for our nine-mile walk to Salford Cathedral’s temporary church, visiting a number of parishes for prayer reflections and comfort breaks along the way.
Our day will end with Mass at the cathedral’s temporary church at 6pm.
Receive our Virtual Pilgrimage Pack
If you are unable to join us on the day or would prefer to tailor your day to suit your specific needs, please sign up to our Virtual Pilgrimage pack that will enable you to take on the pilgrimage in your own way – whether as a parish event, family activity, or as a more prayerful reflection in the comfort of your own home.
Mass at Salford Cathedral’s temporary church will be livestreamed, enabling you to join us in spirit for our closing liturgy.
Join us for our Prayer Liturgies
Only available for a flying visit? Not to worry! We’d be delighted to welcome you to our opening prayer liturgy at the Laudato Si’ Centre, our closing Mass at Salford Cathedral’s temporary church, or any of our parish stops along the way. Get in touch for more details on these events.
